Howe-Walker Fund

A bequest of $1,000 was received December 2, 1933 from Edward W. Howe, a Past President of BSCE.  No restrictions were placed upon the use of the money, but it was decided at that time to keep the bequest intact in a separate fund called the "Edward W. Howe Fund," and that the income be used for the benefit of the BSCE or its members.

A bequest of $1,000 was received in 1961 from Mary H. Walker, wife of Frank B. Walker, a Past President of the BSCE.  No restrictions were placed upon the use of the money, but it was decided at that time to keep the bequest intact in a separate fund called the "Frank B. Walker Fund," and that the income be used for the benefit of the BSCE or its members.

On January 30, 1979, the Board of Government voted to combine the two funds into the Howe-Walker Fund with the income from the joint fund being used to provide prizes, call the Howe-Walker Awards, to members of Student Chapters.  The awards were made annually at Student Night.

On February 23, 1987, the Board of Government voted that the Howe-Walker Awards would henceforth consist of the first year dues in ASCE, BSCES and, if the BSCES would not be the student's local Section, first year dues in the Section where he/she will be residing.
