The mission of the Nominating Committee is to prepare a slate of officers and members of the board of government for the society in accordance with the constitution and bylaws and, whenever possible, recommend to the President an individual for a one-year appointment to the position of assistant treasurer.
The committee may make recommendations for national offices and committees at the time vacancies develop. Additionally, the committee recommends and prepares applications (as required) for individuals for BSCES Honorary Membership and ASCE Distinguished Membership.
The committee consists of the three most recent past presidents and six elected members. Three of the six members are elected annually for two-year terms. The chair is the senior past president and the vice chair is the second most senior past president. A clerk may be appointed at the chair's discretion.
The committee meets approximately four times a year. The final meeting for the selection of the slate of nominees is normally held in January or February.
The committee submits the annual slate of nominations to the secretary for distribution to the membership. The slate of nominations consists of a candidate for the society president, president-elect, senior vice presidents (2), vice presidents (2), secretary, treasurer, assistant treasurer, chair of each institute chapter and technical group, and any other vacancies in office. Six candidates are also nominated yearly for the three positions to be filled on the Nominating Committee.
The committee also puts forward to the Board for approval nominees for the designation of BSCES Honorary Member. The limit on the number of nominations for BSCES Honorary Membership is one per 1,500 members.
The committee may choose to put forward nominees to ASCE for the designation of ASCE Distinguished Membership. As these application are reviewed or accepted each fall, they may be started by one committee and finished the following year.
