A bequest of $1,000 was received in 1916 from the late Edmund K. Turner, a former member of BSCE. The income from the fund was designated to be devoted to the Library of the Society. Then, in 1931, a bequest of $1,000 was received from the late Alexis H. French, a Past President of BSCE. The income from this fund was also designated to be devoted to the Library of the Society.
On June 28, 1999, the Board of Government voted to combine the two funds into the Turner and French Fund, with the income from the joint fund being used as follows: (1) to maintain BSCES’ holdings in The Engineering Center Library; (2) to cover subscription costs including web site maintenance fees; and (3) to provide annual income to offset some of the deficits experienced by BSCESNews and the Civil Engineering Practice journal.
Currently, the BSCES Board of Government oversees the use of the fund to ensure it is utilized for its intended purpose.
