The South Boston Sewer Separation Project (SBSSP) consists of sewer separation work of 403 acres in South Boston. The impacted area is from Broadway to Andrew Square and the Expressway to Telegraph Hill, and the goal is to remove as much stormwater as possible from the existing combined sewer system. Water main and sewer work, where necessary, will occur concurrently, and the project area will be constructed under five construction projects. Working in collaboration with the Boston Planning and Development Agency, the project is currently in the design phase; and construction is expected to begin in the Spring of 2020 until Fall of 2027.
Irene has worked for the Boston Water & Sewer Commission since 1991 where she started as a project Engineer II and quickly worked her way up to Director of Construction where she oversaw the construction of water, sewer, and drainage improvements for the Commission’s $60 million annual CIP and Operating budgets. Most recently being promoted to Chief of Operation. Irene obtained her B.S. from Wentworth Institute of Technology and Master’s from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
