Student Night is an evening for BSCES student and professional members to network with industry leading engineers across all disciplines. This event features lab tours hosted by representatives at SGH, the presentation of SGH Scholarships, and concludes with the keynote address entitled "Massachusetts Pushes the Envelope: Introduction to the Stretch Energy Code." Massachusetts adopted an updated stretch energy code in July 2023, intended to help move toward the state’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. The stretch energy code update introduced many new requirements to advance energy performance in buildings, and Massachusetts has quickly emerged as a leader in building sustainability across the country. This presentation will provide a general introduction to the energy code for commercial buildings. With a focus on building envelope, we will specifically review thermal performance and air leakage requirements and how project teams are rising to the challenge.
