This five-day course is highly interactive and builds upon participants' prior knowledge of tunnel and/or bridge inspection. The course covers the entire breadth of knowledge necessary to manage or execute a successful tunnel inspection based on the National Tunnel Inspection Standards (NTIS), Tunnel Operations, Maintenance, Inspection and Evaluation (TOMIE) Manual and Specifications for the National Tunnel Inventory (SNTI). During the course, the instructor will lead participants through a series of case studies, concluding with a virtual tunnel inspection that takes place in a computer-simulated, 3D environment.
Please note: Prior to taking this course, participants must submit a certificate showing that they have passed one of the following pre-requisite courses: FHWA-NHI-130054, Engineering Concepts for Bridge Inspectors; FHWA-NHI-130054 Engineering Concepts for Bridge Inspectors, FHWA-NHI-130101, Introduction to Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges; or FHWA-NHI-130101A, Prerequisite Assessment for Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges. It is also strongly recommended that participants complete 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges, 130056 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers, or possess equivalent field experience. In addition, course participants are required to sign and submit a BSCES Assumption of Risk and Liability Relating to COVID-19 waiver. This waiver must be submitted to bsces@engineers.org no later than Monday, January 23, 2022.

Attendance for this program is limited to 30 participants. Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served, paid registration basis. The Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section/ASCE (BSCES) requires any person attending this Society-sponsored in-person course to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
