Matt Brune, Aviation Planner, HNTB
Matt has been with HNTB for just over a year now, starting as an intern during his senior year of college and joining full-time in the Boston office in July 2023. An avid aviation enthusiast interested in airfield optimization, he specializes in large data analyses, especially airfield simulation and runway exit taxiway projects.
Topic:
HNTB is a national transportation infrastructure firm. Matt will be discussing HNTB’s practice and will share his experiences as an aviation enthusiast and how he merged a personal passion with his career. The presentation will highlight how a wide array of disciplines can find their career in the world of aviation.
Likhitha Rudraraju, Structural Designer, Delve Underground
Likhitha Rudraraju is a structural engineer with Delve Underground working on new tunnel designs, inspections, repair designs and load ratings of underground structures. During the Sumner Tunnel shut down, she provided construction oversight and developed calculations to resolve any field design changes. Additionally, she provided review of construction submittals and detailed inspections of precast concrete elements. She is a Nationally Certified Tunnel Inspector by the FHWA for highway UMass Amherst in 2023 with the focus of her research on durability of concrete sidewalks under extreme weather conditions.
Topic:
Built in the 1930s, the Sumner Tunnel is a vital underwater link between East Boston and downtown Boston. After nearly a century of constant use, the tunnel urgently needs repairs and upgrades. The restoration project focuses on repairing severe deterioration at the tunnel crown using new precast arches for added protection and strength. Furthermore, upgrades to tunnel systems, such as removing 75% of existing exhaust ducts suspended over the roadway, aim to enhance ventilation system capacity and performance.
Rishabh Iyer, PE, Water Resource Engineer, Kleinfelder
Rishabh Iyer is a water resource engineer with Kleinfelder. He has his Master’s in Environmental Engineering and a professional engineer licensure in Massachusetts. Mr. Iyer is dedicated to the water resource engineering field and is passionate about further advancing his skills as a water resource engineer.
Topic:
The town of Wayland detected per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS, in all four of its drinking water supplies in 2021. The chemical is used in industrial applications to make various products and prolonged exposure to PFAS can potentially lead to severe health problems. One of the town’s sources of supply had levels that exceeded the Massachusetts limit and required treatment, so the town has taken various steps to ensure a safe, reliable drinking water supply for its residents and businesses. The presentation will provide background on the PFAS contamination, the town’s evaluation of long-term water supply options, and interim measures to treat the PFAS and establish an emergency supply connection with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA).
