12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Zoom Video Webinar
Speaker:
Federico Tallis, AICP
Transportation Planner, VHB (Metro DC)
Fleeting are the days when the only data at the analyst’s disposal is that which is manually collected in the field by humans. Today, devices such as sensors, GPS devices, and cellphones are consistently capturing data 24 hours a day. Datasets are getting larger and more complex so, naturally, the tools that we need in order to work with this data and the methodologies that we apply, should adapt with it. Traditional planning and engineering technologies can be clunky and lack the flexibility to handle the size of the data, the multi-dimensional aspect of it, or the potential sophistication of workflows.
VHB has adopted the use of programming languages such as R and Python which have revolutionized the way they do work on a daily basis, allowing them to run more complex and detailed analysis faster than ever. This presentation will introduce transportation planners and engineers to programming languages and highlight how this technology can change the way AEC professionals interact with data, set up analysis, and visualize results.
