The I-90/I-95 interchange in the City of Newton and Town of Weston is a critical location for Massachusetts infrastructure, connecting two of the state’s busiest highways. A series of nine bridges, including the I-90 mainline crossing over I-95 and the Charles River, are currently being replaced or rehabilitated (five bridge replacements, one superstructure replacement, and three bridge rehabilitations) as part of an approximately $320 million Design-Build contract.
This event will begin with a presentation by Darren Conboy of Jacobs Engineering and Bill Czerepak of the SPS-Walsh JV that will showcase project highlights, including the design and construction of a 4-span, 1,030-ft-long steel plate girder bridge that carries I-90 over I-95 and the Charles River, three integral abutment bridges, rapid replacement of the superstructure of the I-90 bridge over the MBTA/CSX, and over 3,300 feet of MSE walls. After the presentation, there will be a guided tour of the project site, where attendees will see the construction progress to date. Please note that proper PPE consisting of a hard hat, safety vest, eye protection, and boots will be required.
There will be a networking social hour to follow the tour at the nearby Ward 4 restaurant. Appetizers will be served and are included in the registration fee.
Attendees must sign a site tour liability waiver and return in advance of the tour to bsces@engineers.org.
