With 2020 squarely behind us, the focus is now turned toward 2021. Many individuals and organizations within our Section or communities are already making a difference by taking actions to affect positive results within the civil engineering profession. At the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section/ASCE (BSCES) we need your help in identifying these distinguished people or employers so that these deserving actions do not go unnoticed in 2021. Additionally, much like the names of distinguished people and employers, BSCES seeks to recognize small and large civil infrastructure projects in Massachusetts that embody the five principles of sustainability.
It all begins with a name! Can you respond to this article with the name of a deserving individual or employer or project? Follow the links to the 2021 Individual Sections, Employer Recognition and Sustainability Awards forms to see if someone or a company or a project you think of is worthy of recognition. Check the eligibility criteria for all fourteen awards or for one. Do not let completing a form steer you away from contributing. If you would like some help, assistance is available from the Awards Committee to complete the task. What is important is we get started and that begins with receipt of nominations.
This year’s individual awards are offered to a wide range of contributors such as the Clemens Herschel Award and the Journalism Award each for publishing. There is the Citizen Engineer Award for a BSCES member or registered professional engineer given in recognition of outstanding public involvement. The Horne/Gaynor Public Service Award given to a registered professional engineer for unpaid public service. Awards for a College Educator and a Pre-College Educator who inspire tomorrow’s engineers. Younger Member Award, Government Civil Engineer Award and the 2021 Engineer of the Year and Project of the Year Awards. Employers awards are given to recognize the efforts of Small and Large size firms for encouraging professional growth, tackling workplace issues, positive community impact and active participation is professional organizations. Sustainability in Civil Engineering Awards for two categories one above and one below a capital cost of $10M.
In 2021 BSCES looks to acknowledge ten distinguished individuals and two employers and recognize two sustainable civil engineering projects. All awards winners will be recognized at the 172nd BSCES Annual Awards Celebration. More details to follow in future newsletter issues. Thank you in advance for your contribution.
