The ASCE Environmental and Water Resources Institute’s (EWRI’s) mission is to “provide for the technical, educational, and professional needs of its members, and to serve the public in the use, conservation, and protection of natural resources and in the enhancement of human well-being.” The EWRI Boston Chapter meets regularly to discuss industry related topics and coordinate events that are of interest to the environmental engineering community.
The EWRI Boston Chapter plans to hold a few amazing technical and social events this year, as to better promulgate professional knowledge and networking with your peers.
The next planned EWRI Boston Chapter event is going to be held on March 22, 2023. Watch Kirsten Ryan from Kleinfelder discuss the latest guidelines and requirements for the Lead Copper Rule Revision (LCRR). Under the LCRR guidelines, a community must prepare a lead service line inventory and a replacement plan by October 2024. To help water utilities prepare for the new rule changes, EPA published guidance in August 2022 for preparing and maintaining a lead service line inventory for communities. This presentation will go over how to best prepare an inventory, some possible challenges, and what a community/municipality can do to be prepared for compliance with the rule changes.
The annual John R. Freeman Fund Lecture will be held in April 3, 2023. This event will recognize the late MIT Professor Peter S. Eagleson, who was a pioneer in evaluating/progressing the understanding of hydrological processes and the global climate system. His concepts continue to inform the modern study of global-scale hydrologic processes and established many of the foundational scientific principles of today’s atmospheric and climate modeling. Join three of Professor Eagleson’s former proteges at MIT as they describe some of the key contributions by Peter S. Eagleson and discuss how these contributions became the origins of modern hydrologic science. Please email ewri@bsces.org to join the emailing list. More information about all upcoming BSCES events can be found on the website.
The EWRI Boston Chapter is always looking for new members! We currently meet virtually on a monthly basis (with a potential in-person meeting in March 2023) and run environmental and water resources events. If you would like to get involved, please contact me at riyer@kleinfelder.com or ewri@bsces.org for more information.
Important: To be recognized as a BSCES member you must login using your BSCES assigned username and password.
Please note: BSCES membership is handled through ASCE but your BSCES log in information is different than your ASCE log in information. To update your contact information, please visit their Manage Your Account page.
If you have issues logging in or have additional questions regarding registration, please contact us at 617/227-5551 or bscesreg@engineers.org.
