Patrick Tierney, PE, Project Manager, Environmental Partners, An Apex Company, and Government Affairs & Professional Practice Committee Chair
Over the coming year, a passionate group of professionals will research, write, release, and promote a state infrastructure report card for Massachusetts. During past year, this BSCES Government Affairs & Professional Practice (GA&PP) Committee undertaking has involved planning and early recruiting for the effort. The committee has decided to take on writing report categories including; Bridges, Roads, Transit, Drinking Water, Stormwater, Wastewater and Dams. This report card will be utilized to tell the incredible story about the Commonwealth’s historic infrastructure accomplishments, and advocate for funding to support our growth and sustainability ambitions.
Please join us for a complimentary kickoff and training session from 2:30 to 5:00 PM on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the Kleinfelder office in Boston. Over 2.5 hours, attendees will receive instruction on the importance of engineers, other infrastructure professionals, and stakeholders adding their voices to the ongoing public debate about improving interconnected systems across 18 infrastructure categories in transportation, water, energy, and telecommunications. The second half of kickoff sessions provides attendees with best practices for state report card success – from preliminary research through the release press conference and government relations outreach.
A networking event will be held following the event at the Beantown Pub. All infrastructure professionals and students interested are welcome to join in supporting or amplifying the infrastructure report card – the organization’s flagship tool for advocating at the local, state, and federal levels. ASCE’s national office provides free resources throughout the process and additional free training on topics like public relations and meetings with VIP decision-makers. We hope you and your colleagues consider joining that motley crew.
For more information, please reach out and consider signing up through the RSVP link here.
ASCE’s state and national report cards earn media attention, keen lawmaker interest, and an accessible entry point to interested residents. The report card benefits from stakeholders like you adding their voices to the ongoing public discussion. If your neighbor asks why they pave your street and then dig it up again months later, this is the brochure you hand them, pointing to the grades!
We hope you join the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section and coalition members to attend this kickoff training.
Please reach out to reportcard@asce.org or Govern.Affairs.Comm@bsces.org to be added to the committee or for general inquiries about the initiative.
