The ASCE Environmental and Water Resources Institute’s (EWRI’s) mission is to “provide for the technical, educational, and professional needs of its members, and to serve the public in the use, conservation, and protection of natural resources and in the enhancement of human well-being.” The EWRI Boston Chapter meets regularly to discuss industry related topics and coordinate events that are of interest to the environmental engineering community.
The EWRI Boston Chapter has hosted one event this year, with several more events to come! EWRI was honored to welcome Captain Michael Stover, P.E. as the keynote speaker for the biennial Thomas R. Camp Lecture on January 12th, 2021 for a presentation titled “Sacred Water: Perspectives from Working with Native American Communities.” Captain Stover currently serves as the Indian Program Manager for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 1’s tribal program. The presentation focused on some of the many water challenges facing indigenous communities in the United States and Canada. The event was a great way to kick off the new year.
The next planned EWRI event is going to be held in late March. The Director of Education from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure will be presenting about the Envision™ certification program. The Envision™ certification provides a framework that encourages systemic changes in the planning, design and delivery of sustainable and resilient infrastructure. This event will offer credential maintenance. Stay tuned for more details on this event!
The annual John R. Freeman Fund Lecture will be held in April. This event will likely be a panel on wastewater-based epidemiology. The biennial Karl K. Kennison Lecture on hydraulics will also be hosted this spring at a date to be determined. To stay updated on events like these, join the emailing list of the EWRI Boston Chapter! The EWRI Boston Chapter is always looking for new members! We currently meet monthly virtually to coordinate and run environmental and water resources events. If you would like to get involved, please contact Denise Prussen at prussendn@cdmsmith.com or ewri@bsces.org for more information.
