The Desmond Fitzgerald Fund was established to honor the memory of Desmond Fitzgerald, a Past President and Honorary Member of the Society. This fund was originally intended to provide income for charitable and educational purposes. On April 16, 1964, the Board of Government voted to establish a BSCE Scholarship in memory of Desmond Fitzgerald at Northeastern University. In September 1981, the Board of Government designated the fund to be used for a student award with the amount be determined annually.
The BSCES Student Chapter Committee solicits nominations for this award and submits nominees for the BSCES Board of Government's consideration. The award is presented at BSCES Student Night; typically held in March or April.
The 2021 Desmond Fitzgerald Award recipient was Andrew Bronk of Northeastern University.
