The William P. Morse Fund was established for the benefits of BSCES and its members with an initial bequest in 1949. No restrictions were placed upon the use of the fund but it was decided at that time to keep the bequest intact in a separate fund and that the income would be used for the benefit of the Society and its members. The BSCES Board of Government voted in April 1954 "to appropriate from the income of this fund a scholarship to be known as the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Scholarship in memory of William P. Morse, and that it be given to a civil engineering student at Tufts University."
The BSCES Student Chapter Committee solicits nominations for this award and submits nominees for the BSCES Board of Government's consideration. The award is presented at BSCES Student Night; typically held in March or April.
The 2021 William P. Morse Award recipient was Elena Chan of Tufts University.
